I woke up this morning and I didn't want to get out of bed. I was warm, I was tired I had just slept 10 hours. As a pilgrim, I got my stuff together and started walking the 8km to Estella. The evening thunderstorm left the trail wet and muddy.
On the way, I stumbled upon an ancient medieval church. What a better way to spend a Sunday morning exploring and praying inside this church. Undocumented in any guidebook, was it really a stumble?
The entrance to Estella. It is Sunday, the day of rest. I am taking this afternoon and Monday off. Estella is the largest town since Pamplona. I will explore and resupply tomorrow.
A pilgrim from the past and a knight from Navarre in action.....notice the dragon
The knights of Navarre would climb these steps to be knighted in full armor!
Beauty...
This Siesta business really takes a meaning here. Everything shuts down between 130 and two and does not open until five! Messes up my schedule but heck I'd love the live this way! My feet and ankle feel much better and I will be on the way to Villamayor de Monjardin in the AM. Buen Camino!
